Old Faithful Inn, a member of Historic Hotels of America since 2012, is one example of how guests can experience the essence of Yellowstone. Built in 1903-1904 with local logs and stone, the Inn is considered the largest log structure in the world. The towering lobby features a massive stone fireplace and a hand-crafted clock made of copper, wood and wrought iron serving as focal points. With 327 rooms, the Old Faithful Inn is open from early May until mid-October.
On May 28, 1987, The Old Faithful Inn was designated by the U. S. Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark. This rustic-style lodge, with its log and wood shingle exterior, is adjacent to the world-famous Old Faithful Geyser. The original part of the Inn, known as the "Old House," was completed in 1905 and today, the Inn is an icon of national park architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The immense lobby rises 76 feet and features a massive stone fireplace and a handcrafted clock made of copper, wood, and wrought iron. It’s the most requested lodging facility in Yellowstone National Park. The east and west wings of Old Faithful Inn were added in the early 1900s, with many rooms being remodeled in recent years.
Guest accommodations include rooms with private and shared baths. We stayed in one of the suites on the top floor (3rd) and overlooked the Old Faithful Geyser. Mary and Bill also had a gorgeous suite with the same view! Additionally, a full-service restaurant, deli, gift store, and interpretive tours are available at the Inn. The Inn is open from early May through mid-October and closed during the winter. This inn is also a departure location for different tours. We were on three during this trip, and I will discuss each of the tours on this website. All were great, and the tour guides were outstanding.
