In August 2020, we FINALLY got word that our MasterCraft NXT20 was arriving after waiting for almost 2 months after ordering it custom made.
After escrow closed on the lake house (May 19, 2020), we went shopping for our first of two boats - a MasterCraft NXT20. Canyon Lake requires no powered boat to be longer than 21" 6". The NXT20 - as the model implies - is just about 20 feet long and fits the criteria. The NXT is a relatively new model in the MasterCraft line. When we went to the dealer (which was about 20 miles from Canyon Lake), we discovered that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that there had been an unusually high demand on recreational vehicles - boats, campers, RVs, ATVs, etc - because people were no longer traveling but finding things to do locally. So, that meant nothing in stock!! All boat purchases had to be ordered from the factory.
MasterCraft had recently released a new option for its inboard v-drive boats called DOCKSTAR. Here is a link to a cool video about the DockStar system.
Wakeboard boats (in fact, most all single-propeller inboards) have a tendency to back up in reverse primarily either to the right or left depending upon propeller rotation. When moving forward, the propeller blows water past the rudder which causes the boat to change direction when the rudder is turned. However, in reverse, there is no rudder to direct the direction of the boat as the thrust blows undirected beneath the hull. So, MasterCraft developed a system that puts two smaller rudders in front of the prop so that in reverse, there is a means to change the thrust (flow) of water and make it more precise to steer the boat in reverse. Definitely, it was a feature I wanted!
So, we sat down with the dealer and put together our custom order of the MasterCraft - which included the Dockstar system as well as most all other options available. After placing the order, we had to wait for 2 months for the boat to be built and shipped to our dealer from back east where the MasterCraft factory is located. Here is a link to a MasterCraft NXT20 promotional video of the boat on the water. Here is a link to a more in-depth video.
One of the images below shows Pam and I picking up our new MasterCraft after the dealer prep. MasterCraft is one of the most highly sought after boats known for their quality and performance characteristics. With almost 400 HP, it is a powerhouse boat for wakeboarding, skiing, knee-boarding, or just cruising around the lake! On top of those cool features, it has a seating capacity of 11!
Enjoy the videos and images below of our fun on the lake with this beautiful MasterCraft! I also included a couple photos of our kids wakeboarding behind our other boat - the Lowe SS210 pontoon. It lacks the horsepower of the MasterCraft, but people can still have fun wakeboarding behind it!
